The article examines the history of the development and development of the automotive industry and, in parallel with it, the technical service industry in the Russian Empire, then in the Soviet Union and again in Russia. The problems of the formation of these branches, the stages of their development, their influence on each other are considered. The factors influencing the de-velopment of these industries are analyzed, that primarily, or the development and improvement of the car's design served as an objective promise for the development of technical service, or vice versa, the development of technical service was the impetus for finding the most effective constructive solutions, finding the most acceptable ones, both in terms of reliability and durabili-ty, and cost, materials used in the automotive industry. An assessment is made of the impact on the development of the domestic car analysis of the design of cars supplied to the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War, according to the Lend-Lease. The estimation of a modern condi-tion of the automobile industry of Russia as a whole, factories-manufacturers and the models made on them in particular is given. In conclusion, it is noted that the two industries: automotive and technical service are closely interrelated and mutually complementary throughout the long journey from the creation of the car to today. The development and improvement of the car's design, the materials of the parts and components predetermined the development of the system itself and the strategies for maintenance and repair, methods of organizing and managing the production processes of the TO and R. In further studies on the history of the automobile industry and technical exploitation, the author sees the continuation of this work in the direction of studying dependencies, asso-ciated with the history of creating an internal combustion engine (change in the specific power taken from the unit of engine displacement, with units mass massages, etc.), transmissions.
